Wine Information:
Love:
Ask any Phi Mu to share our values and she’ll undoubtedly say “Love, Honor and Truth.” This bottle is the first in a series of three, and the theme of the first stanza of the Phi Mu Creed: love. “To keep our lives gentle, merciful and just, thus being true to the womanhood of love.” Enjoy this red blend with your sisters and those you love!
We introduce you to Love. This proprietary red blend – from our award-winning winemaker Todd Heth – exhibits dark blackberry, bing cherry, and plum notes perfectly into layers of coffee and tobacco. The finish is dry with long-lasting berry fruit. Silky but firm tannins, this wine is enjoyable now but has the ability to age well in the cellar.
Strength:
Two lions grace either side of Phi Mu’s coat of arms, supporting and holding a shield. In addition to strength, lions embody many positive qualities that are relevant to us: family, nobility, courage, protectiveness and leadership. This wine is named for the strength that we find through our sisterhood and within all of our members.
Our Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara County experiences a lengthy and cool growing season that is similar to the climate of the Burgundy region of east-central France. Unlike Burgundy, our Pinot Noir experiences dense fog that rolls in off the Pacific Ocean; this fog contributes to the ideal climate for Pinot Noir, offering just enough moisture to be beneficial without lingering too long.
We introduce you to Strength. This Pinot Noir has aromas of cherries, raspberries, blackberries, and brown sugar with notes of baking spices. On the palate, the wine opens with bright, fruit flavors of strawberries, leading to a round mouthfeel on the mid-palate and soft, velvety tannins on a long, elegant finish.
Carnation:
Phi Mu’s flower is the rose-colored carnation. Our members have many fond memories of carnations: used at chapter events, received as gifts from sisters and on display during recruitment. The carnation carries several meanings in the language of flowers: “love of beauty,” “promised happiness” and “devotion and constancy.” All of those are perfectly fitting for our Phi Mu sisterhood. This chardonnay is perfect for casual or informal, impromptu or scheduled, gatherings with sisters and sharing with others!
We introduce you to Carnation. Hailing from the cool and foggy climate for the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County, this beautiful medium-bodied wine was grown slowly to build intense flavors over time. This wine was aged in French oak and displays a beautiful balance of fruit, oak and liveliness on the palate and exhibits lush mango and toasted almond. Balanced fruit with tarte acidity makes this wine a classic example of Premium Russian River Chardonnay.
Philomathean:
In 1852, young students at Wesleyan College, the first institution to grant degrees to women, founded the Philomathean Society as a literary organization to support one another in their academic endeavors. The Philomathean Society became Phi Mu Fraternity in 1904. The spirit of the Philomatheans, and of our sisters always being there for one another, lives on in every Phi Mu. Raise a glass of bubbly Philomathean for any celebratory occasion and toast to our everlasting, steadfast sisterhood!
We introduce you to Philomathean. This premium sparkling wine – meticulously and artfully made in the traditional champagne method – rivals anything found from the best Champagne houses in Épernay and Reims. Blended superbly from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, this magnificent Napa Valley Brut exhibits rich fruit aromatics of strawberry and delicate white cherry that follows through to a creamy mid-palate accompanied with highlights of lime and wet minerality and a lingering vibrant finish.
