Wine Information:
Anchor 1881:
The first anchor badges used by Delta Gamma were designed in 1877. The sketch here dates to 1881 when it was sent to several authorized jewelers to produce. The result was considerable variation in the style of badges from this era. The anchor is an age-old symbol of hope. The badge pairs this with a shield to represent the ideals of the Fraternity. Just three years after this sketch was made the first edition of The ANCHORA would be produced with the cover heavily referencing this symbol.
We introduce you to Anchor 1881. This premium 2019 Red Wine is an artful red blend created by winemaker Todd Heth. This wine exhibits dark blackberry, bing cherry and plum notes perfectly into layers of coffee and tobacco. The finish is dry with long lasting berry fruit. Silky but firm tannins, this wine is enjoyable now but has the ability to age well in the cellar.
ITB:
Before email and text messages, friends kept in touch and maintained their bonds with each other by writing letters. In the Victorian era (1837 – 1901) a complex set of rules dictated the language a writer would use depending on their closeness and familiarity with the recipient. When Delta Gammas began using “In The Bonds” to close their letter to each other in the 1880s it signaled a lifelong, everlasting relationship. To this day, members close letters and emails to one another with this phrase. ITB, sisters.
We introduce you to our ITB Pinot Noir. From the Russian River Valley AVA of Sonoma County, this beautiful wine is influenced mostly by the fog of the AVA and is very aromatic, with a velvet mouthfeel, and has a fruit character that is ripe and intense.
Celebrate Hope:
Our beloved Anchor was chosen as our badge in 1877 because it is the age-old symbol for hope. Today, in each sister, chapter and milestone, we continue to celebrate the hope that connects each of us. We celebrate the hope we have in each other and in our pursuit of doing good. And we celebrate the promise of sisterhood that has been our anchor in life’s many storms and successes.
We have many to thank for the growth and success we have experienced throughout the last 147 years and all the years to come. May this bottle be shared in celebration as we toast the ever-expanding lifetime bonds of our Delta Gamma sisterhood.
We introduce to you “Celebrate Hope”. This premium sparkling wine – meticulously and artfully made in the traditional champagne method – rivals anything found from the best Champagne houses in Épernay and Reims. Blended superbly from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, this magnificent Napa Valley Brut exhibits rich fruit aromatics of strawberry and delicate white cherry that follows through to a creamy mid-palate accompanied with highlights of lime and wet minerality and a lingering vibrant finish.
Flourish:
Education for women in the 1800s focused on the cultivation of “ladylike” behavior and skills including creative pursuits such as drawing. The Lewis School in Oxford Mississippi was no exception. However, times were changing.1870 saw the first women graduate from law school in the United States and in 1882, only nine years after the founding of Delta Gamma, the University of Mississippi would begin admitting women. These new opportunities broke barriers that would allow future generations of women to pursue their education and dreams as never before.
We introduce you to Flourish. This 2021 Rosé Wine has watermelon and strawberry notes burst out of the glass. When served cool on a warm day, the juicy acidity of this wine makes for a very refreshing and versatile wine to share at any occasion.
