Wine Information:
Purple Clematis:
Gamma - Snowy White Owl:
Endearingly known as Gamma, the mascot of the Phi Gamma Delta and important symbol to its members, the great snowy owl is indigenous to the Allegheny Mountains of western Pennsylvania. According to legend it was an unintended visitor to some of the secret, midnight meetings of the “Delta Association.”
We introduce you to Gamma - Snowy White Owl. From the chalky soil of the Carneros region in southern Napa Valley, this gem exhibits lush green apple and bright grapefruit notes while dancing across your palate. This stunning wine is light and friendly with very subtle vanilla and pear blossom hints on the nose. Balanced fruit with tart acidity makes this wine a classic example of Premium Napa Valley Chardonnay.
The Founding Collection: LOG CABIN:
Log Cabin is part of The Founding Collection which pays homage to the locations, symbols and events associated with the founding of Phi Gamma Delta. In 1795 John McMillan founded a classical school in this tiny log cabin, later to send his students to the newly chartered Jefferson College in nearby Canonsburg. McMillan’s old “log college” – the foundation of Jefferson College – was frequently visited by the men who would found Phi Gamma Delta, evidenced by McCarty’s and Fletcher’s names etched on the doorstep.
We introduce you to The Founding Collection: LOG CABIN. This proprietary red blend – from our award-winning winemaker Todd Heth – exhibits dark blackberry, bing cherry, and plum notes perfectly into layers of coffee and tobacco. The finish is dry with long-lasting berry fruit. Silky but firm tannins, this wine is enjoyable now but has the ability to age well in the cellar.
PERGE!:
Dating back to the original constitution of 1848, The watchword of each member shall be ‘Perge’ and his lodestar the highest niche in the Temple of Fame. Perge! is loosely interpreted to mean Carry On! or Press On! and used to reinforce this motto between brothers. Brother Calvin Coolidge once expressed his significant thoughts on this watchword, as expressed in the Persistence quotation, “…Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘Press On’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”
We introduce you to PERGE!. This premium sparkling wine – meticulously and artfully made in the traditional champagne method – rivals anything found from the best Champagne houses in Épernay and Reims. Blended superbly with 100% Pinot Noir, this magnificent Napa Valley Blanc de Noirs exhibits rich fruit aromatics of strawberry and delicate white cherry that follows through to a creamy mid-palate accompanied with highlights of lime and wet minerality and a lingering vibrant finish.
The Immortal Six:
In April 1848 the “Immortal Six”, all students at Jefferson College and scholars of the Franklin Literary Society, came together recognizing the benefits of fraternal association. In founding Phi Gamma Delta they focused on friendships, believing that “Association brings into action all the finer feelings of the heart: Love, friendship, benevolence, and likewise calls forth the noble aspirations of the soul, and urges man onward to improvement, to fame, and to glory.”
We introduce you to The Immortal Six. Crafted from a ridgetop vineyard on Mount Veeder, our The Immortal Six 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon reflects the essence of its terroir. The long, cool 2018 season allowed for extended hangtime, resulting in a wine of remarkable structure and balance. Aromas of cassis, black cherry, and lingonberry intertwine with nuances of crushed cocoa, violets, and thyme. Silky tannins complement the complex fruit profile, leading to a lingering finish of black tea and kirsch.
Fairwinds 2021 Rosé of Cabernet:
Our Rose of Cabernet 2021 hails from the Russian River Valley, offering a delightful expression of Cabernet Sauvignon in rosé form. Vibrant aromas of fresh strawberries and watermelon precede flavors of red berries and citrus zest. A crisp acidity and a hint of floral notes on the finish make this rosé a perfect companion for sunny days.
