Wine Information:

Ochino Club:

The Ochino Club was the predecessor of the Delta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Lambda at the University of Kansas. It was formed in 1919 as an outgrowth of the Oxford Club, which was formed in the winter of 1916. Like many other groups the Oxford Club was broken up by World War I. After the war, four returning members created Ochino as an organization expressing their ideals of fellowship, clean habits, and serious purpose binding together in a unified whole. We introduce you to Ochino Club. Our Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara County experiences a lengthy and cool growing season that is similar to the climate of the Burgundy region of east-central France. Unlike Burgundy, our Pinot Noir experiences dense fog that rolls in off the Pacific Ocean; this fog contributes to the ideal climate for Pinot Noir, offering just enough moisture to be beneficial without lingering too long.

This Pinot Noir has aromas of cherries, raspberries, blackberries, and brown sugar with notes of baking spices. On the palate, the wine opens with bright, fruit flavors of strawberries, leading to a round mouthfeel on the mid-palate and soft, velvety tannins on a long, elegant finish.

Yellow Rose:

The Souvenir de Claudius Pernet was established in the early 1900’s just like Alpha Kappa Lambda making it the perfect Fraternity flower. The golden yellow of the rose and its dark green glossy foliage play to the colors seen on the Fraternity’s crest. The Yellow Rose is used in many ways for Alpha Kappa Lambda. Chapters call formals by that name. Chapter Sweethearts, spouses and loved ones are presented this rose. You will find the Yellow Rose used in Fraternity ceremonies too.

Hailing from the cool and foggy climate for the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County, this beautiful medium-bodied wine was grown slowly to build intense flavors over time. This wine was aged in French oak and displays a beautiful balance of fruit, oak and liveliness on the palate and exhibits lush mango and toasted almond. Balanced fruit with tarte acidity makes this wine a classic example of Premium Russian River Chardonnay.

Bushnell Guild:

The Bushnell Guild was the predecessor of Gamma Chapter at the University of Illinois. Initially called the Congregational Guild it changed to the Bushnell Guild in 1918 and then became Gamma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Lambda in 1921. The principles of Christianity, Scholarship, Citizenship and Fellowship aligned well with the Ideals of Alpha Kappa Lambda. This was the first chapter outside of California. Its iconic house was located on 401 E. Daniel St.

This proprietary red blend – from our award-winning winemaker Todd Heth – exhibits dark blackberry, bing cherry, and plum notes perfectly into layers of coffee and tobacco. The finish is dry with long-lasting berry fruit. Silky but firm tannins, this wine is enjoyable now but has the ability to age well in the cellar.

Strength & Victory:

As supporters of the shield (the crest of Alpha Kappa Lambda), we find on the dexter (left) a spray of California Oak, and on the sinister (right) a spray of California Laurel. These are for Strength and Victory, and represent the fruitage of the Fraternity’s Activities, men who are strong for the right and successful in their chosen fields. The Oak and Laurel can also be found etched in the Alpha and Lambda of Alpha Kappa Lambda’s badge. We celebrate Strength and Victory!

We introduce you to Strength & Victory. This premium sparkling wine – meticulously and artfully made in the traditional champagne method – rivals anything found from the best Champagne houses in Épernay and Reims. Blended superbly from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, this magnificent Napa Valley Brut exhibits rich fruit aromatics of strawberry and delicate white cherry that follows through to a creamy mid-palate accompanied with highlights of lime and wet minerality and a lingering vibrant finish.

The Cimmerian Club:

The Cimmerian was considered a tribal type of people who worked for the good of society outside the limelight. Founding members of the Cimmerian Club, which later became our Kappa Chapter at Purdue University, found this concept appealed to them. Unlike other early local founding groups of AKL, this one was encouraged by the Fraternity’s expansion plan and endorsed by the University’s Dean of Men. The concept started in 1930. Purdue required a group to exist as a local club for at least two years before affiliating with a National Fraternity. The group officially formed in 1931 modeling itself after AKL. On May 20, 1934 they became Kappa Chapter. The chapter boasts four Past National Presidents and an Executive Director of the Fraternity.

We introduce you to The Cimmerian Club. This flagship Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic representation of the appellation’s preeminent varietal. Notes of black cherry, blackberry and plum are complemented by hits of toasted oak, dried currant and baking spice. Fine-grained tannins and ample brightness on the palate give way to a polished mouthfeel and exceptionally long finish.

Sweetheart of AKL:

Sweetheart of AKL is probably the Fraternity’s most notable song from our songbook. It has been sung at competitions, to honor campus sweethearts and at the weddings of members for at least a half a century. The Fraternity has benefited from many Sweethearts but two in particular that get special attention. Jeanne Bacon, the spouse of our first Executive Director Lewis Bacon. Also Ann Gilchrist, a long time staff member and spouse of our past Executive Director, Keith Gilchrist. This bottle honors Jeanne, Ann and all Sweethearts of AKL.

We introduce you to Sweetheart of AKL, our 2021 Rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon. The watermelon and strawberry notes burst out of the glass. When served cool on a warm day, the juicy acidity of the 2021 Rosé makes for a very refreshing and versatile wine, perfect to share on any occasion. Look for the hidden imagery in the rose petals.
