Wine Information:
Mizpah:
For more than 100 years, Alpha Sigma Alphas have been using ‘Mizpah’ to greet each other as well as to say farewell. As you enjoy a glass of the Mizpah Pinot Noir, make a toast to your sisters- those who are enjoying the wine with you as well as those whom you haven’t seen in a while.
We introduce you to Mizpah. Our Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara County experiences a lengthy and cool growing season that is similar to the climate of the Burgundy region of east-central France. Unlike Burgundy, our Pinot Noir experiences dense fog that rolls in off the Pacific Ocean; this fog contributes to the ideal climate for Pinot Noir, offering just enough moisture to be beneficial without lingering too long.
Mizpah has aromas of cherries, raspberries, blackberries and brown sugar with notes of baking spices. On the palate, the wine opens with bright, fruit flavors of strawberries, leading to a round mouthfeel on the mid-palate and soft, velvety tannins on a long, elegant finish.
Phoenix:
There is a significant symbol used in our coat of arms and as the name of our magazine. This is the phoenix, a miraculous bird of great beauty. The phoenix, the only one of its kind, after living 500 or 600 years on the Arabian wilderness, built for itself a funeral pyre of spices and aromatic gums, lighted the pile by the fanning of its wings and was burned upon it. Yet from the ashes it arose revived, in the freshness of youth and more beautiful than before. The phoneix reminds Alpha Sigma Alphas that fine and beautiful ideals are everlasting. The ideals to which Alpha Sigma Alpha asks members to ascribe are centuries old; though they be subjected to destroying fires, they rise again, beautiful and enduring as before.
We introduce you to Phoenix. This Chardonnay is a real gem. Hailing from the cool and foggy climate for the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County, this beautiful medium-bodied wine was grown slowly to build intense flavors over time. This wine was aged in French oak and displays a beautiful balance of fruit, oak and liveliness on the palate and exhibits lush mango and toasted almond. Balanced fruit with tarte acidity makes this wine a classic example of Premium Russian River Chardonnay.
Mary:
Born in Halifax, VA in 1885, “May” as she was known by her sisters, roomed with Virginia Boyd Noell. May’s keen sense of humor continually amused those around her. May was serving as Alpha Chapter treasurer when she signed the Alpha Sigma Alpha charter.
We introduce you to Mary. The 2019 Red Wine is an artful red blend created by winemaker Todd Heth. This wine exhibits dark blackberry, bing cherry and plum notes perfectly into layers of coffee and tobacco. The finish is dry with long lasting berry fruit. Silky but firm tannins, this wine is enjoyable now but has the ability to age well in the cellar.
Joyously Live:
“To love life and joyously live each day to its ultimate good…”
When Wilma Wilson Sharp wrote the Creed of Alpha Sigma Alpha in 1933, she never imagined that this line would become so meaningful for so many members. It is only fitting that our sparkling brut is named “Joyously Live” to remind sisters to celebrate life and embrace each day with exuberant enjoyment.
We introduce you to Joyously Live. This premium sparkling wine – meticulously and artfully made in the traditional champagne method – rivals anything found from the best Champagne houses in Épernay and Reims. Blended superbly from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, this magnificent Napa Valley Brut exhibits rich fruit aromatics of strawberry and delicate white cherry that follows through to a creamy mid-palate accompanied with highlights of lime and wet minerality and a lingering vibrant finish.
Juliette:
Born in Nelson County, VA in 1886, Juliette was the first cousin of Virginia Boyd Noell. Juliette lived just a few miles from Farmville with her parents Judge and Mrs. George Jefferson Hundley. Her home was always open to Alpha Sigma Alphas for weekend parties. It was Juliette’s father who assisted Alpha Sigma Alpha in obtaining a charter from the Commonwealth of Virginia. Juliette served as vice president of Alpha Chapter.
We introduce you to Juliette. This flagship Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic representation of the appellation’s preeminent varietal. Notes of black cherry, blackberry and plum are complemented by hits of toasted oak, dried currant and baking spice. Fine-grained tannins and ample brightness on the palate give way to a polished mouthfeel and exceptionally long finish.
Shine Together:
The 2022 National Convention & Leadership Conference in Baltimore embodies our vision. Through a supportive and inclusive environment, our members come together to learn, grow and affect positive change in the world. We lift each other up so we can all “Shine Together”.
We introduce you to Shine Together, our 2021 Rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon. The watermelon and strawberry notes burst out of the glass. When served cool on a warm day, the juicy acidity of the 2021 Rosé makes for a very refreshing and versatile wine, perfect to share on any occasion. Look for the hidden imagery in the rose petals.
