Collegiates Harold Hill (Illinois 1911) and Howard Green (Illinois 1912) devoted much of their free time to composing songs together in the living room of the chapter house at the University of Illinois—Harold the music, Howard the words. During a visit, Eminent Supreme Recorder William C. Levere (Northwestern, 1898) heard them singing “Violets” and asked for it to be published in the SAE songbook. The song immediately became a favorite throughout the Realm, and to this day, its popularity remains undiminished. The violet was officially adopted as the Fraternity’s flower in 1891 during the 35th Anniversary Convention in Atlanta, Georgia.

We introduce you to Violets. This elegant white wine blend is alluring and complex. The nose is like a bouquet of flowers and jumps from the glass with ripe lemon, white peach and orange blossom followed by notes of toast and white pepper. On the tongue, lemon bursts forward with pineapple and other tropical fruit, with undertones of vanilla. The finish is bright and zingy and mellows with vanilla and subtle spices in its length.
