Wine Information:
Legacy:
Legacy is the second release in The Founders series, which honors the six men that together established the brotherhood that still lives on today. Born William Bradford, Littleton Waller Tazewell changed his name to preserve the memory of his maternal grandfather, a beloved governor of Virginia. He lived in 47 West Range with his cousin, Frederick Southgate Taylor. Tazewell was the first beneficiary of family introducing family into the bonds of phi phi kappa alpha. After graduation, he went on to become a successful businessman and was prominent in public life. The Fraternity’s first legacy, Tazewell earned that title in his own right by the manner in which he lived his life and spread his radiance through the hearts of our brothers.
The 2019 Founders Red Wine is an artful red blend created by winemaker Todd Heth. This wine exhibits dark blackberry, bing cherry and plum notes perfectly into layers of coffee and tobacco. The finish is dry with long lasting berry fruit. Silky but firm tannins, this wine is enjoyable now but has the ability to age well in the cellar. The second bottling honors the wisdom of Founder Thomas Cowan Bell.
Fireman:
Amid the Fraternity’s early symbols, Pi Kappa Alpha cast about for something special that would say “PIKE” to the world. Who would have guessed an answer might lie in ownership and use of a real-life, working, very old fire truck? After all, the colors were usually correct – garnet and gold. The desire for a fire engine swept the Fraternity following the March 1959 issue of the Shield & Diamond featuring the five existing PIKE engines throughout the country. Today dozens of PIKE chapters maintain retired fire trucks, which has led to a relationship with many fire departments as well as charitable support of first responders in our campus communities.
We introduce you to Firemen. This premium Pinot Noir is from the Russian River Valley AVA of Sonoma County. This beautiful wine is influenced mostly by the fog of the AVA and is very aromatic, with a velvet mouthfeel, and has a fruit character that is ripe and intense.
Louisville:
The City of Louisville was established in 1778 and was named for King Louis XVI of France in appreciation for his assistance during the Revolutionary War. In 2022, Louisville will serve as the host city for The Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity’s biennial convention! With a booming bourbon renaissance, iconic attractions including the Kentucky Derby, world-class hotels and venues, and a renowned culinary scene, Louisville truly is “an entirely different type of Southern.”
We introduce you to Louisville, our 2021 Rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon. The watermelon and strawberry notes burst out of the glass. When served cool on a warm day, the juicy acidity of the 2021 Rosé makes for a very refreshing and versatile wine, perfect to share on any occasion. Look for the hidden imagery in the rose petals.
Diamond:
Our character should always be as pure as the peerless diamond, and just as the diamond blazes with the light of truth, our love for our brothers blazes on today. The tradition of drinking champagne to mark celebrations originated in the royal courts of Europe in the 18th century. This particular selection was created to celebrate the best of times with our brothers.
This premium sparkling wine – meticulously and artfully made in the traditional champagne method – rivals anything found from the best Champagne houses in Épernay and Reims. Blended superbly from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, this magnificent Napa Valley Brut exhibits rich fruit aromatics of strawberry and delicate white cherry that follows through to a creamy mid-palate accompanied with highlights of lime and wet minerality and a lingering vibrant finish.
