Born in 1857 and previously named “Greenbrier,” Traveller was a grey American Saddlebred of 16 hands (64 inches). In spring of 1861, Lee first took notice of Traveller in then western Virginia. In 1865, he purchased Traveller for $200 and gave him his final name. He was a horse of great stamina, speed, and strength. While accompanying Lee to Washington College, he lost many tail hairs from students wanting a souvenir. He died in 1871. The stable where he lived his last days, directly connected to the Lee House on campus, traditionally stands with its doors left open; this is said to allow his spirit to wander freely. Enjoy a glass of Traveller with friends and brothers and let your spirits wander freely in brotherhood and camaraderie.

We introduce you to Traveller. Our Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara County experiences a lengthy and cool growing season that is similar to the climate of the Burgundy region of east-central France. Unlike Burgundy, our Pinot Noir experiences dense fog that rolls in off the Pacific Ocean; this fog contributes to the ideal climate for Pinot Noir, offering just enough moisture to be beneficial without lingering too long.

Traveller has aromas of cherries, raspberries, blackberries, and brown sugar with notes of baking spices. On the palate, the wine opens with bright, fruit flavors of strawberries, leading to a round mouthfeel on the mid-palate and soft, velvety tannins on a long, elegant finish.
