John Webb Kerr (Alabama 1856) helped establish one of the most successful fraternities in American history. Kerr was elected as SAE's first secretary and helped form the foundations of The Fraternity we love today. It was Kerr's home where many fraternity meetings took place and the first place SAE called home.

Like other Founding Fathers, Kerr grew distant from the fraternity that had meant so much to him. However, at the 1896 Convention, Kerr attended and spoke to the assembly, saying, "Forty years ago was the last time I attended an initiation or took any active part in SAE. Yet when I met you today, I was borne backward to those good times when I was a youth full of hope and ambition."

There's a deeper appreciation in Kerr's story for what SAE has always aimed to be: a home. While we as brothers may stray from that home, it never truly leaves us. Wherever a brother may be, and no matter how much time has passed, like Kerr, may he know that he can always come home to SAE. So we present to you, Kerr.
