Wine Information:
The Oak:
Toward the end of his life, founder William Alexander likened Pi Kappa Alpha to the oak and drew the image depicted on this label, with roots grown from the acorn of 1868 and branches covering more than fifteen decades. A fair comparison: the oak holds the earth together against winds, waters, and storms on the southern coast of our country; in the East, it covers acre after acre; in the West, it dominates the landscape. The strength of the oak has come to represent the hearts of true men.
The second release of “The Oak” Chardonnay is a real gem. Hailing from the cool and foggy climate for the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County, this beautiful medium-bodied wine was grown slowly to build intense flavors over time. This wine was aged in French oak and displays a beautiful balance of fruit, oak and liveliness on the palate and exhibits lush mango and toasted almond. Balanced fruit with tarte acidity makes this wine a classic example of Premium Russian River Chardonnay.
Origin:
Origin is the first release in The Founders series, which honors the six men that together established the brotherhood that still lives on today. Frederick Southgate Taylor’s vision of the Fraternity predated its establishment. He gave Pi Kappa Alpha its name and presided over the first convention in 1874. As the founder who conceived the origin of the Fraternity and sought out the first members to join him in this endeavor, it’s only fitting to honor him with the first release of this series. We should all strive to approach new ventures with the same level of passion and zeal.
This proprietary red blend – from our award winning winemaker Todd Heth – exhibits dark blackberry, bing cherry and plum notes perfectly into layers of coffee and tobacco. The finish is dry with long lasting berry fruit. Silky but firm tannins, this wine is enjoyable now but has the ability to age well in the cellar.
