Like the olive wreath that surrounds our guiding motto, Phi Alpha, Phi represents unity, brotherhood, and the shared journey of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Before SAE’s founding, John Mason Martin envisioned creating Phi Alpha Fraternity, drafting a constitution for what could have been the fifth fraternity at The University of Alabama. Though the idea was set aside, his manuscript later influenced Noble Leslie DeVotie in composing SAE’s early Constitution.
