The “dear letter H” was the first symbol of Delta Gamma. A symbol that stood for hope. In 1873 when our Founders formed our club of mutual helpfulness, they placed hope and friendship above all else. For almost 150 years these principles have remained the driving force of our sisterhood. Little did our Founders know that they were laying the cornerstone for what would become the Delta Gamma of today – a fabric woven together by the countless friendships formed since the time of our founding.
This label features a sketch of that first symbol, the H pin. Delta Gamma has been known by many symbols and images over the years, but this is the first. This symbol was carefully designed by our three Founders in January 1874. Founder Mary Comfort Leonard wrote, “We went to a local jeweler and had our pin made – the dear little letter H which stood for hope, for we hoped great results and have not been disappointed.”
We introduce you to H Reserve 1873. This proprietary red blend – from our award-winning winemaker Todd Heth – exhibits dark blackberry, bing cherry and plum notes perfectly into layers of coffee and tobacco. The finish is dry with long lasting berry fruit. Silky but firm tannins, this wine is enjoyable now but has the ability to age well in the cellar.
