Wine Information:
Durham Park:
Nestled in the mountains of North Carolina, Appalachian State University boasts one of the most naturally beautiful campuses in the country. Durham Park adds to that allure with its picturesque setting located in the heart of the campus. Once the home to App State Baseball, the park is now adorned with weeping willows, lush greenery, and the soothing sound of Boone Creek. It is an ideal spot for Mountaineers to relax, study, or hang a hammock to enjoy the outdoors.
We introduce you to Durham Park. From the Russian River Valley AVA of Sonoma County, this beautiful wine is influenced mostly by the fog of the AVA and is very aromatic, with a velvet mouthfeel, and has a fruit character that is ripe and intense.
King Street:
No Boone visit is complete without a stroll down iconic King Street. Boasting a rich history and memorable experience, King Street is near the top of the Boone to-do list, falling second only to App State’s campus, of course. Whether lined with patrons, advocates, students, or alumni – King Street has something to offer everyone! Much like our 2020 Chardonnay, you will be drawn to its curb appeal and transported to your favorite downtown strip.
We introduce you to King Street. This Chardonnay is a real gem. Hailing from the cool and foggy climate for the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County, this beautiful medium-bodied wine was grown slowly to build intense flavors over time. This wine was aged in French oak and displays a beautiful balance of fruit, oak and liveliness on the palate and exhibits lush mango and toasted almond. Balanced fruit with tarte acidity makes this wine a classic example of Premium Russian River Chardonnay.
Yosef Club:
Today, and every day, our student-athletes and Yosef Club members give their all for Appalachian State. This unwavering support demonstrates a commitment to enriching the lives of current and future Mountaineers – on the field and in the classroom. Equal parts passion, loyalty, and spirit – this signature red blend captures all it means to be a Mountaineer.
We introduce you to Yosef Club. The 2019 Red Wine is an artful red blend created by winemaker Todd Heth. This wine exhibits dark blackberry, bing cherry and plum notes perfectly into layers of coffee and tobacco. The finish is dry with long lasting berry fruit. Silky but firm tannins, this wine is enjoyable now but has the ability to age well in the cellar.
Boone:
Daniel Boone is famous for exploring the American frontier beyond the Appalachian Mountains. He blazed one of the trails that opened up areas west of the Appalachians to increased European settlement. Boone was the namesake for Boone, N.C., where he would camp while hunting in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Appalachian State University replaced the original monument with a sculpture of Daniel Boone with his dogs, erected in 1999 by the Duck Pond off Rivers Street, on the spot believed to have been Boone’s campsite.
We introduce to you Boone. This premium sparkling wine – meticulously and artfully made in the traditional champagne method – rivals anything found from the best Champagne houses in Épernay and Reims. Blended superbly from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, this magnificent Napa Valley Brut exhibits rich fruit aromatics of strawberry and delicate white cherry that follows through to a creamy mid-palate accompanied with highlights of lime and wet minerality and a lingering vibrant finish.
The Mountaineer Pride:
As a Mountaineer, you know you are a part of something bigger than yourself. People from different backgrounds and cultures gather in fellowship in the Blue Ridge Mountains to become part of the Pride. By sharing experiences with one another at Kidd Brewer Stadium, the Duck Pond or Durham Park – a bond is formed between us Mountaineers that is truly unbreakable.
With every bottle of Mountain Born Napa Valley wine, proceeds will benefit and support our great institution and important athletics programs. Appalachian State University creates a spirit and passion among its students that they carry with them for the rest of their lives. That spirit and passion is none other than The Mountaineer Pride.
We introduce you to The Mountaineer Pride. Our flagship Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic representation of the appellation’s preeminent varietal. Notes of black cherry, blackberry and plum are complemented by hits of toasted oak, dried currant and baking spice. Fine-grained tannins and ample brightness on the palate give way to a polished mouthfeel and exceptionally long finish.
125 Years:
Appalachian State University was founded 125 years ago to increase access to education for those in North Carolina’s “lost provinces.” Today, we are a premier public institution — a thriving university that remains true to our mission as a rural-serving institution
We introduce you to 125 Years, our 2021 Rosé of Cabernet Sauvignon. The watermelon and strawberry notes burst out of the glass. When served cool on a warm day, the juicy acidity of the 2021 Rosé makes for a very refreshing and versatile wine, perfect to share on any occasion. Look for the hidden imagery in the rose petals.
