“The Founders were inspired by a vision: a vivid, spiritual and patriotic vision; an ineffable, profound dream of a great people, long estranged by intersectional animosities and torn by a devastating fratricidal way, living together in peace and unity under the healing and transforming power of brotherhood and love.”
The evening of Tuesday, September 11, 1865, was the time of “the Founders’ Meeting.” The place was the back parlor of Otis Allen Glazebrook’s home at 114 East Clay Street, Richmond. There Glazebrook read his work and it was ratified by the signatures of the other two. They signed in alphabetical order. This happened to be also the order in which they had become interested in Glazebrook’s creation.
In his honor, we introduce you to The Otis. This proprietary red blend – from our award-winning winemaker Todd Heth – exhibits dark blackberry, bing cherry and plum notes perfectly into layers of coffee and tobacco. The finish is dry with long lasting berry fruit. Silky but firm tannins, this wine is enjoyable now but has the ability to age well in the cellar.
