Fraternity members at Yale did not live in houses, but they met in “tombs”, which were large windowless lodges that had an air of mystery and secrecy surrounding them.
On March 27, 1907, members of a re-founding class of the Alpha Chapter traveled to Marietta College to be initiated. Many of the old Alpha members returned to Yale upon hearing the news of the refounding and helped acquire the fraternity’s first piece of real estate, the “Tomb”, a windowless two-story building. No non-member was allowed entrance. No member could speak of the interior of the building and was even expected to remain silent while passing by the exterior of the building.
We introduce you to The Tomb. Our flagship Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic representation of the appellation’s preeminent varietal. Notes of of black cherry, blackberry and plum are complemented by hits of toasted oak, dried currant and baking spice. Fine-grained tannins and ample brightness on the palate give way to a polished mouthfeel and exceptionally long finish.
