Louis Manigault was born in Paris, France, on November 21, 1828. Manigault arrived at Yale in the fall of 1845 and chose not to join a freshman society. Manigault found the attitude of the members of the sole sophomore society, Kappa Sigma Theta, toward their fellow students condescending and obnoxious. As a freshman, he had visions of starting a rival sophomore fraternity. For his freshman year, Louis Manigault lived in a college boarding house that sat at the intersection of Temple and Chapel Street, overlooking the green and college buildings on the other side. The boarding house gave Manigault the privacy and freedom to concentrate on planning the creation of Alpha Sigma Phi. On Saturday evening, December 6, 1845, Manigault met with Rhea and Weiser in his room at 59 Chapel Street to formalize their commitment to establish the Fraternity.

It is only fitting to honor Brother Manigault, the principle founder, with the first release of this series.

We introduce you to Louis Manigault. This proprietary red blend – from our award-winning winemaker Todd Heth – exhibits dark blackberry, bing cherry and plum notes perfectly into layers of coffee and tobacco. The finish is dry with long-lasting berry fruit. Silky but firm tannins, this wine is enjoyable now but has the ability to age well in the cellar.
