Wine Information:

Ochino Club:

The Ochino Club was the predecessor of the Delta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Lambda at the University of Kansas. It was formed in 1919 as an outgrowth of the Oxford Club, which was formed in the winter of 1916. Like many other groups the Oxford Club was broken up by World War I. After the war, four returning members created Ochino as an organization expressing their ideals of fellowship, clean habits, and serious purpose binding together in a unified whole. We introduce you to Ochino Club. Our Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara County experiences a lengthy and cool growing season that is similar to the climate of the Burgundy region of east-central France. Unlike Burgundy, our Pinot Noir experiences dense fog that rolls in off the Pacific Ocean; this fog contributes to the ideal climate for Pinot Noir, offering just enough moisture to be beneficial without lingering too long.

This Pinot Noir has aromas of cherries, raspberries, blackberries, and brown sugar with notes of baking spices. On the palate, the wine opens with bright, fruit flavors of strawberries, leading to a round mouthfeel on the mid-palate and soft, velvety tannins on a long, elegant finish.

The Cimmerian Club:

The Cimmerian was considered a tribal type of people who worked for the good of society outside the limelight. Founding members of the Cimmerian Club, which later became our Kappa Chapter at Purdue University, found this concept appealed to them. Unlike other early local founding groups of AKL, this one was encouraged by the Fraternity’s expansion plan and endorsed by the University’s Dean of Men. The concept started in 1930. Purdue required a group to exist as a local club for at least two years before affiliating with a National Fraternity. The group officially formed in 1931 modeling itself after AKL. On May 20, 1934 they became Kappa Chapter. The chapter boasts four Past National Presidents and an Executive Director of the Fraternity.

We introduce you to The Cimmerian Club. This flagship Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic representation of the appellation’s preeminent varietal. Notes of black cherry, blackberry and plum are complemented by hits of toasted oak, dried currant and baking spice. Fine-grained tannins and ample brightness on the palate give way to a polished mouthfeel and exceptionally long finish.

Yellow Rose:

The Souvenir de Claudius Pernet was established in the early 1900’s just like Alpha Kappa Lambda making it the perfect Fraternity flower. The golden yellow of the rose and its dark green glossy foliage play to the colors seen on the Fraternity’s crest. The Yellow Rose is used in many ways for Alpha Kappa Lambda. Chapters call formals by that name. Chapter Sweethearts, spouses and loved ones are presented this rose. You will find the Yellow Rose used in Fraternity ceremonies too.

We introduce you to Yellow Rose. Hailing from the cool and foggy climate for the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County, this beautiful medium-bodied wine was grown slowly to build intense flavors over time. This wine was aged in French oak and displays a beautiful balance of fruit, oak and liveliness on the palate and exhibits lush mango and toasted almond. Balanced fruit with tarte acidity makes this wine a classic example of Premium Russian River Chardonnay.
