Wine Information:
Royal Purple & Old Gold:
The SAE flag is synonymous with the Fraternity. With its iconic colors and indistinguishable lettering, ours cannot be mistaken for any other. One look at the purple and gold banner is easily identifiable—and even more inviting. If a flag is waving, SAEs are welcomed beneath it. Designed by H.H. Cowan (Adrian 1890), the flag was officially adopted in 1892 during the 36th Anniversary Convention in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and has remained unchanged since.
We introduce you to Royal Purple & Old Gold. This Pinot Noir has aromas of cherries, raspberries, blackberries, and brown sugar with notes of baking spices. On the palate, the wine opens with bright, fruit flavors of strawberries, leading to a round mouthfeel on the mid-palate and soft, velvety tannins on a long, elegant finish.
Rudulph:
Born on October 10, 1837, John Barratt Rudulph remains one of Sigma Alpha Epsilon's most beloved founders. Perhaps because he was one of DeVotie's dearest friends, or maybe because he designed the fraternity's iconic badge, or could the reason be found in the story of his rekindling love for SAE? By the turn of the century, Rudulph had lost touch with the fraternity, as the fraternity had with him. Upon locating the founder, Billy Levere brought Rudulph to the 50th Anniversary Convention held in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1906. Brother Rudulph was astonished at how SAE had blossomed from a tiny band of brothers to a national institution and, in a quiet moment at that Convention, as he thought back to the days of 1856, said: "We never dreamt of this." He attended the Atlantic City Anniversary Convention in 1909 before he died on April 13, 1910. He is buried at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, Alabama.
We introduce you to Rudulph. Our flagship Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic representation of the appellation’s preeminent varietal. Notes of black cherry, blackberry and plum are complemented by hits of toasted oak, dried currant and baking spice. Fine-grained tannins and ample brightness on the palate give way to a polished mouthfeel and exceptionally long finish.
Wisdom:
Minerva, the goddess of wisdom, represents the importance of intellect within everyday tasks. She is known for her dedication and as the sponsor of all useful arts, continuing to serve as a symbol of power and virtue. Minerva is a strong warrior who fights for just causes standing proudly with her shield and spear. Carrying weapons of wisdom and knowledge, she is the embodiment of peace and prosperity that Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s men strive to represent daily as loyal sons of Minerva.
We introduce you to Wisdom. This Chardonnay is a real gem. Hailing from the cool and foggy climate for the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County, this beautiful medium-bodied wine was grown slowly to build intense flavors over time. This wine was aged in French oak and displays a beautiful balance of fruit, oak and liveliness on the palate and exhibits lush mango and toasted almond. Balanced fruit with tarte acidity makes this wine a classic example of Premium Russian River Chardonnay.
