Wine Information:
Bold & Courageous:
When Gamma Phi Beta’s four founders entered Syracuse University in the early 1870s, they were among a small but bold contingent of women intent on seeking higher education. To knowingly enter a difficult environment took courage and despite the gender disparity they faced, they persevered and completed their degrees. To combat these challenges, Helen, Frances, Addie and Mary created our True and Constant sisterhood, a welcoming haven that offered support, acceptance, enrichment and love for female students. This bottle’s label is inspired by an illustration that appeared in The Crescent in the early 20th century.
Like our Founders, First Moon’s Bold and Courageous Pinot Noir is not afraid to forge its unique path.
We introduce you to our Bold & Courageous Pinot Noir. From the Russian River Valley AVA of Sonoma County, this beautiful wine is influenced mostly by the fog of the AVA and is very aromatic, with a velvet mouthfeel, and has a fruit character that is ripe and intense.
The Scholar:
Founder Frances Elizabeth Haven once wrote “The Founders of Gamma Phi Beta were a rather serious minded group of girls.” And for good reason. At a time when higher education was not an assumed path for young women, Gamma Phi Beta’s founders were pioneers and eager to prove their worth and contributions to academic endeavors. Among this group, was Founder Helen M. Dodge who was nicknamed “the scholar.” Helen enjoyed a life of scholarship and made education a lifelong pursuit. Similar to her founding sisters, Helen appreciated the rarity and value of the opportunity they’d been given for scholastic achievement and she proved women – especially Gamma Phi Betas – can accomplish what they set out to do.
We introduce you to The Scholar. Our flagship Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic representation of the appellation’s preeminent varietal. Notes of of black cherry, blackberry and plum are complemented by hits of toasted oak, dried currant and baking spice. Fine-grained tannins and ample brightness on the palate give way to a polished mouthfeel and exceptionally long finish.
The Artist:
Founder Frances E. Haven Moss made her mark as The Artist among Gamma Phi Beta’s founding sisters, and the original The Artist vintage celebrated the arts and culture that is woven into the fabric of Gamma Phi Beta. Inspired by Frances’s legacy, this chardonnay highlights an original work of art, “Wildflower” by Alyssa Hamilton (Northern Iowa), who shared this inspiration: “I imagine my child, and possible legacy, being a wildflower. I have a feeling all that wildness will come together in something undeniably beautiful; bright, vibrant, and full of life.”
We introduce you to The Artist. This Chardonnay is a real gem. Hailing from the cool and foggy climate for the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County, this beautiful medium-bodied wine was grown slowly to build intense flavors over time. This wine was aged in French oak and displays a beautiful balance of fruit, oak and liveliness on the palate and exhibits lush mango and toasted almond. Balanced fruit with tarte acidity makes this wine a classic example of Premium Russian River Chardonnay.
